Monkey || Rui Matsunaga

Monkey || Rui Matsunaga

What really struck me with this piece was the use of bold but natural colours. I personally think that this painting represents the growth of human kind and our relationship with ‘mother nature.’ There is also a sense of inevitability in regards to the cycle of life and death that exists for every living being.

Matsunaga herself refers to ancient mythology when describing this piece. With ‘Monkey,’ she is attempting to draw attention to the “meditative sense of our universal human condition.”
