FMP: Visual Style

My main source of inspiration for the overall style of ‘Still Friends’ was writer and director Spike Jonze.

He uses mainly warm toned colours, which is what I aim for in my own film. The colours are always complimentary to each other and create a feeling of closeness and intimacy between his characters. Norah herself is very close with her ornament and I want this to be conveyed through her surroundings.

I have also taken inspiration from Jonze’s narrative style. Since a lot of his films such as ‘Her’ and ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ (pictured above) are based around odd and surreal situations, however through his filming and writing style, Jonze manages to make this feel normal to the viewer. With ‘Still Friends,’ I want the viewer to recognize
that this is an odd situation but I want them to feel comfortable watching the film as if it was any other more conventional narrative.
